ISBerne commends the Odyssey of the Mind teams from both the Elementary and Secondary Schools who traveled to the International School of Geneva this past Saturday for a regional tournament!
“On Saturday, 2 March 2013, I had the pleasure to be in the audience as our first ever Odyssey teams competed against teams from the International School of Geneva. Our teams are to be congratulated for being such creative, open minded and risk-taking participants. What really struck me was the diversity of cultural backgrounds of our teams, something that I think truly adds to the essence of what makes our school such a special place. It brings with it a variety of ideas, talents and perspectives that one might not necessarily see from a more mono-cultural school. Mr Bechtel and I are very grateful to our coaches and extremely proud of each and every ISBerne student that participated, they represented all that ISBerne stands for!”
Mr Scott Jackson, ELC/Elementary School Principal
The video below gives a quick look at the teams’ practice sessions and shares a bit about the mission of the program. And again, ISBerne sends a huge thank you to the parent volunteers for their efforts to make this activity a huge success in its first year. It’s a wonderful opportunity for parents to get involved at the school.
The school looks forward to learning about upcoming competitions including a possible trip to the European tournament.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.
